Neill to Present at Criminal Tax Day 2021
On Friday, June 4th, 2021, Sara G. Neill, shareholder and Chair of Capes Sokol’s Tax Controversy and Litigation Practice Group, will participate as a panelist in a webinar entitled, “Non-Filers.” The webinar is a part of Criminal Tax Day 2021, a 1-day virtual event for tax professionals who want to learn about important developments in criminal tax. Sara will be joined by Bryan Skarlatos of Kostelanetz & Fink, LLP and Hank Kea, Director, Field Collections Operations, Small Business/Self- Employed Division, Internal Revenue Service.

In May 2020 the Treasury Inspector General for Tax Administration issued a report criticizing the IRS for knowing about over 10 million non-filers, many of whom are high-income earners, and not pursuing them. The IRS assured us that, no, they have a program and are pursuing them. So, a year later where is the IRS regarding its non-filer program? Join our experts and hear what the IRS is doing to bring non-filers into the system and when does a taxpayer’s failure to comply make up criminal behavior.
