Sabin to Present on Short-Term Property Rentals

On April 17th, Brian J. Sabin will present a CLE session entitled, “The Evolving Legal Landscape of Short-Term Property Rentals”. The presentation, sponsored by the BAMSL Real Property and Development Committee, will review the mechanics of the short-term property rental industry, and will highlight important legal and policy considerations for hosts, guests and governmental entities.

The Evolving Legal Landscape of Short-Term Property Rentals

The short-term property rental industry, led by Airbnb, promised to transform the hotel industry and make the business model of traditional hotels obsolete.  While the popularity of short-term property rentals has skyrocketed, occupancy of traditional hotels has actually grown to record levels.  The growth of short-term property rentals has caused some unintended consequences, however, such as transforming owner-occupied residential communities with the addition of transient guests.  Local governments are struggling with the policy considerations raised by the short-term rentals, which has caused legal uncertainty for industry participants.
