Cooley Named Chair of Appellate Practice Group
Drey A. Cooley, a shareholder of Capes Sokol, has been named Chair of the law firm’s Appellate practice group. Drey is an experienced appellate attorney, representing clients in civil and criminal appeals in front of a variety of state and federal appellate courts.
As practice group chair, Drey will oversee the activities and strategic direction of the appellate group. He succeeds previous group chair Sheila Greenbaum, a highly regarded practitioner in appellate law, civil litigation and government law.
“Capes Sokol’s Appellate Group is an experienced team of professionals who have successfully argued, on numerous occasions, in front of the Missouri Supreme Court, state intermediate appellate courts and numerous federal circuit courts of appeals.” said Drey. “I look forward to continuing the tradition of zealously representing both firm clients and attorney referrals in their civil and criminal appellate matters.”
In addition to his appellate practice, Drey A. Cooley represents companies in business, real estate, construction, and intellectual property disputes in state and federal trial and appellate courts. Drey also represents for-profit and non-profit businesses and individuals in commercial and high-value residential property tax appeals in front of County Boards of Equalization and the Missouri State Tax Commission, contesting both adverse assessment and tax exemption decisions. He is the author of MissouriRealEstateTaxAppeals.com, a blog discussing Missouri tax appeal issues.
Drey is the Vice President of the St. Louis Chapter of the Federal Bar Association and a member of the board of directors of St. Louis Health Equipment Lending Program (HELP), a non-profit 501(c)(3) organization. He earned a J.D. at University of Michigan Law School, and a B.A., Psychology, Phi Beta Kappa, with honors, at Washington University in St. Louis.
