Capes Sokol Welcomes Lynch to the Firm
Capes Sokol is pleased to announce that Calvin L. Lynch has joined the firm as an associate in the firm’s tax controversy and white collar criminal defense practice groups.
Calvin represents clients in civil and criminal tax disputes and litigation involving the Internal Revenue Service, Department of Justice and Missouri Department of Revenue. He handles audits, administrative appeals, voluntary disclosures, significant tax collection matters, trust fund penalty investigations, claims for refund and innocent spouse relief, and criminal tax investigations. Calvin also represents clients in other white-collar criminal matters involving allegations of financial fraud.
While in law school, Calvin clerked for a regional law firm and gained experience in criminal and civil litigation. He served as a law clerk at the Missouri Office of Public Counsel, an organization that represents and protects the interests of Missouri’s citizens and businesses as it relates to utility services. In addition, Calvin was as a graduate teaching assistant for an undergraduate business law course at the University of Missouri Trulaske College of Business.
Prior to law school, Calvin worked for two Missouri members of Congress, first in Washington, D.C. as a district intern for Representative Blaine Luetkemeyer and then as an intern for Representative Jason Smith. In those roles, Calvin performed legislative research and helped constituents navigate government bureaucracy.
Calvin received his law degree in 2019 from the University of Missouri-Columbia School of Law, where he was an associate managing editor on the Journal of Dispute Resolution and treasurer of the Federalist Society. In 2020, he received his Master of Laws in Tax Law/Taxation from the Northwestern University Pritzker School of Law. He graduated from the University of Missouri-Columbia in 2016 with a Bachelor of Arts (History) degree.
