
Al-Shathir & Neill to Present at the 2018 ABA Tax May Meeting
Later this week, Capes Sokol Shareholders Laura E. Krebs Al-Shathir and Sara G. Neill will present in front of an audience of the nation’s leading tax practitioners at the 2018 American Bar Association (ABA) Section of Taxation May Meeting. This annual event, presented by the ABA’s Taxation Section, brings together high-level government officials, judges, corporate counsel, and private practitioners to discuss current tax law issues, topics and legislation.
Ethics Issues in Criminal Representations and Fraud Examinations
On Friday, May 11, 2018, Sara G. Neill, Chair of Capes Sokol’s Tax Controversy and Litigation Practice Group, will be a panelist in a session entitled, “Ethics Issues in Criminal Representations and Fraud Examinations.” This panel will discuss issues that frequently arise when representing individuals under IRS criminal investigation and in sensitive audits.
Important Civil Developments
On Saturday, May 12, 2018, Sara will provide an update on “Important Civil Developments” in tax cases to the Civil and Criminal Tax Penalties Committee.
Laura E. Krebs Al-Shathir, an experienced tax advisor to corporate tax clients, will participate in two committee panels focused on Section 199A of the Internal Revenue Code. The S Corporations Committee session entitled: “Choice of Entity Under the 2017 Tax Act” will focus on the choice of an entity in light of Section 199A. The LLCs and LLPs Subcommittee of Partnerships & LLCs Committee session entitled: “Roundtable Discussion of 199A” will attempt to look at some real-world scenarios and how 199A might apply.
