Laura Al-Shathir provides tax and business planning advice in various matters including entity selection, business operations, mergers and acquisitions and business succession planning. Ms. Al-Shathir has experience in advising clients on a wide range of business matters, including executive compensation. She represents individuals, corporations, partnerships, limited liability companies and non-profit entities in both tax planning and general business planning.

In her tax practice, Ms. Al-Shathir represents clients in matters involving:

  • U.S. federal income taxation, including:
    • corporate
    • partnership
    • international taxation
  • Missouri state income taxation
  • Missouri state sales and use taxation

Laura Al-Shathir also represents clients in federal and state tax controversies, in both civil and criminal matters.

In her business and real estate practice, Ms. Al-Shathir represents clients in matters involving:

  • Formation and structuring of businesses
  • Corporate governance
  • Mergers and acquisitions
  • Real estate transactions, including Internal Revenue Code Section 1031 transactions

Ms. Al-Shathir earned her Bachelor of Journalism, cum laude, from the University of Missouri–Columbia School of Journalism, and she earned her Juris Doctor and a Certificate in Tax from the University of Missouri–Columbia School of Law. Ms. Al-Shathir began her career as an Associate in the International Tax Services group of PricewaterhouseCoopers in St. Louis. Prior to joining Capes, Sokol, Goodman + Sarachan, P.C., Ms. Al-Shathir was an Associate at the St. Louis law firm of Greensfelder, Hemker & Gale, P.C. She is admitted to practice law in both Missouri and Illinois. Laura Al-Shathir is a member of the Missouri Bar Association, the Illinois Bar Association, the American Bar Association Section of Taxation and the Bar Association of Metropolitan St. Louis. She is also member of the Board of Directors of Downtown Children’s Center.
